Cubs starter Marcus Stroman wins N.L. Player of the Week honors

The incredible week included two spectacular starts against the Rays and Padres

MLB announced on Monday that Cubs starting pitcher Marcus Stroman won N.L. Player of the Week honors. It’s the first time Stroman has been recognized with the award.

Stroman threw 15 innings over his award-winning week, which included a complete game shutout in the Cubs’ 1-0 win over the Rays. He followed up that gem by allowing just one unearned run in six innings against the Padres. Between the two starts, Stroman struck out 14 batters and walked just four.

Over the entire 2023 season, Stroman has a 2.39 ERA, which ranks seventh in all of baseball. His 11 quality starts are the most in MLB. Stroman ranks fifth with a .186 batting average against.

Stroman is the first Cubs player to win N.L. Player of the Week honors since Seiya Suzuki in April 2022. He’s the first Cubs pitcher to win since Alec Mills in September 2020.
