Injury update: Wick begins throwing with ‘positive feedback'

Cubs setup man Rowan Wick played catch within the last couple of days and reported "positive feedback," manager David Ross said Thursday.

"I talked to him [Wednesday] and [he] felt really good," Ross said. "It was the first time he was very positive about how he felt in a while."

Wick, 28, has been sidelined this entire spring due to a left oblique injury. The ailment put him on the shelf for the final few weeks of the 2020 season and has lingered throughout the offseason and into spring training.

Ross recently reported the right-hander was scheduled to undergo extensive medical tests to try and determine the source of his pain. However, he said Thursday there's currently no new medical terminology for Wick's condition.

Ross said Thursday Wick is feeling better but did not provide a potential timetable for his return.

Considering the nature of the injury, Wick may be sidelined into the start of the regular season as the club exercises caution in his recovery. In two seasons with the Cubs, he holds a 2.66 ERA in 50 appearances.
