Kris Bryant and Jason Heyward are both out of the Cubs' lineup on Monday against the Astros.
Bryant and Heyward collided in right-center field tracking a fly ball in the sixth inning on Sunday against the Reds. Bryant exited the game immediately after the collision; Heyward stayed in before being replaced in the top of the seventh inning.
Bryant went through testing after the game — the Cubs lost 10-2 — and it was initially unclear if he would even fly to Houston with the team. He ultimately made the trip, though he is still under evaluation, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. Meanwhile, Heyward has a sore hip, likely due to the collision.
With Bryant and Heyward ailing, the Cubs promoted 34-year-old Jim Adduci from Triple-A Iowa. Adduci grew up in Evergreen Park and spent six years in the Cubs farm system (2007-12). He holds a .235/.286/.340 slashline in 391 MLB at-bats (2013-14, 2017-18) and is hitting .261/.306/.478 with seven home runs in Triple-A this season.
To make room for Adduci on the 25-man roster, the Cubs sent Tim Collins to Iowa. Their 40-man roster now stands at 40 players.
