Javy Baez and Willson Contreras lead at their positions in All-Star voting after the first update from MLB.
Contreras is blowing away the field at catcher. He has 850,613 votes and Braves catcher Brian McCann has 269,963 votes.
Baez has a lead that is nearly as big at shortstop. He has 861,496 votes while another Brave, Dansby Swanson, is second with 286,802 votes.
Five other Cubs are in line to qualify for MLB’s new Starters Election. The top three at each position (and the top nine in the outfield) advance to the next round of voting, which will take place over a 28-hour period starting on June 26.
Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant are second place at their corners while Albert Almora Jr., Jason Heyward and Kyle Schwarber are in the top nine in the outfield.
Only second baseman Daniel Descalso is set to not advance to The Starters Election. He is in sixth place.
The primary round of voting ends at 3 p.m. CT on Friday, June 21.
