Anderson to miss Opening Day for '21 suspension

The White Sox will be without their All-Star shortstop on Opening Day against the Tigers

Tim Anderson will miss the first two games this season because of a suspension from last September. He also was fined $10,000.

Anderson was initially suspended three games and fined last September after making contact with an umpire during a benches-clearing incident in Detroit.

Benches cleared after José Abreu slid hard into second base attempting to advance on a wild pitch. The Tigers took exception to the slide.

Anderson appealed the suspension, which only applied to regular season games, and it was reduced by a game.

Leury García likely will play shortstop in Anderson's absence.
