Hawk Harrelson might soon be going into the Hall of Fame.

Friday, the legendary White Sox broadcaster was named one of eight finalists for the 2020 Ford C. Frick Award, handed out annually for excellence in baseball broadcasting. The winner will be announced next month during the Winter Meetings and honored during Hall of Fame weekend in late July.

Harrelson spent more than three decades behind the microphone with the White Sox, wrapping up his iconic career last season. His famous catchphrases, nicknames and general persona are still an integral part of White Sox culture.

A polarizing figure, what was never in doubt was his complete and total dedication to the White Sox, which gave him an enduring connection with generations of South Side baseball fans.

“I want to thank Sox fans for giving me all those 35 years of their time,” Harrelson said in the team's announcement. “When you take a man’s money, you take a man’s money.  But when you take a man’s time, you take a part of his life. I love our White Sox fans and I always will.”

Other finalists this year include Joe Castiglione, Jacques Doucet, Tom Hamilton, Pat Hughes, Ned Martin, Mike Shannon and Dewayne Staats. The 15-member committee that will vote on the winner is made up of Marty Brennaman, Bob Costas, Jaime Jarrín, Tony Kubek, Denny Matthews, Tim McCarver, Jon Miller, Eric Nadel, Vin Scully, Bob Uecker, Dave Van Horne, David J. Halberstam, Barry Horn, Ted Patterson and Curt Smith.

Harrelson has thrice before been a finalist for the Frick Award, in 2007, 2014 and 2017. It won't be long before we find out if you can put him in the Hall, yes!
