Nate Jones' 2017 season is over after he had elbow surgery, Rick Hahn confirmed Thursday.
Jones — who hasn't pitched since April 28 — had nerve repositioning surgery on his right (throwing) elbow earlier this week.
It's a brutal blow for one of the most important pieces of the South Side bullpen.
Jones had been attempting to work back from his right elbow neuritis and threw a couple bullpen sessions in the minor leagues before his rehab was slowed down just before the All-Star Break.
The 31-year-old reliever had Tommy John surgery in 2014 and has thrown only 103 games over the last four seasons. He's been very effective in that stretch with an 8-5 record, 2.84 ERA, 0.997 WHIP and 122 strikeouts in 101.1 innings.
Jones was one of the best relievers in the game last season with a 2.29 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 10.2 K/9 in 71 games for the White Sox.
