When I left Montreal after the 1990 season, I was fortunate to land in Chicago on a White Sox team that benefited from my play and veteran leadership. Despite its outcome, the 1993 American League Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays stands out as one of my career highlights. I had an incredible assortment of teammates in Chicago. Some, like Frank Thomas and Robin Ventura, took conventional routes to the majors, and others like Bo Jackson and Michael Jordan, tried their hand at two sports. The relationships I developed with the White Sox led to a coaching job with the team and gave me a chance to celebrate along with the city in 2005 when the team won its first World Series since 1917.
