Yoelqui Céspedes will open the season in the minor leagues after the White Sox reassigned him to minor league camp on Tuesday.

Céspedes made his organizational debut in the White Sox minor leagues last season, splitting time between Single-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham, hitting .285/.350/.463 in 72 games.

He went 5-for-19 (.263) in seven games this spring training.

Céspedes is the Sox' No. 4 overall prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and there's a chance he makes his MLB debut later in the 2022 season.

In other roster news, the Sox optioned right-hander Jimmy Lambert to Triple-A Charlotte. They also reassigned pitchers Tanner Banks, Wes Benjamin, Brandon Finnegan, Andrew Pérez, Caleb Freeman, Tyler Johnson and Yacksel Ríos to minor league camp.

Forty-two players remain in big-league camp.
