BALTIMORE - Avisail Garcia is still out of action, but the White Sox say they’re encouraged by his progress.

The outfielder didn’t start in either game of Thursday’s doubleheader and hasn’t played since he exited Monday’s contest after 1 1/2 innings with right knee inflammation. Even so, after consulting with trainer Herm Schneider, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said he didn’t think Garcia needs a stint on the 15-day disabled list.

“I would like to see him play in Houston,” Ventura said. “We’ll see when he gets down there and runs around and see what he looks like.

“He says he feels pretty good, Herm’s pretty confident about him being able to make it back soon without a DL stint. You never know.”

Garcia has a .327/.365/.456 slash line with four home runs, 18 RBIs in 156 plate appearances. He injured his knee May 17 in Oakland and has sporadically played since. Garcia missed last Friday and Saturday’s games before he returned on Sunday. Ventura pulled him after Garcia singled and looked hobbled in Monday’s loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
