The White Sox announced on Sunday that they placed closer Liam Hendriks on the 15-Day IL due to right elbow inflammation. The move is retroactive to June 10.

Hendriks made an emotional return to baseball in late May after he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma just about six months prior. It didn’t take long for Hendriks to regain his usual dominant form, either. After giving up two runs in his first game back, Hendriks gave up only one run over his next four appearances.

That included three completely clean innings, with three strikeouts in those appearances.

The White Sox called up left-handed pitcher Tanner Banks from Triple-A Charlotte to take Hendriks’ place in the bullpen. Banks has pitched 8.0 innings over four appearances for the White Sox this year. Over those 8.0 innings, he has a 3.38 ERA and a 1.000 WHIP.
