White Sox will play only 161 games this season after doubleheader gets rained out

Let’s play two turned into let’s play zero pretty quick Friday night on the South Side.

And because of it, the White Sox will only play 161 in 2019.

Let’s sort out all those numbers, starting with the two games of Friday night’s doubleheader against the visiting Detroit Tigers getting washed away by ceaseless Chicago rain. Only one of the games will be made up, as part of a doubleheader Saturday, with only one, originally scheduled game being played Sunday, the final day of the regular season.

That adds up to just 161 regular-season games for the White Sox on the 2019 campaign.

The White Sox and Tigers tried to squeeze one game in Friday, starting after nearly an hour-long rain delay and playing three and a half innings in an hour and a half. That wasn’t enough to make the game official.

Saturday’s doubleheader will start at 2:40 p.m. at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox announced that fans with tickets and parking coupons for Saturday night’s originally scheduled game can attend both games of the doubleheader with their ticket and parking pass. The Guaranteed Rate Field parking lots will open at 1 p.m., and the gates will open at 2 p.m.
