Jim Boylen opted for the word "slow" over "setback."
Whatever the case, Boylen offered no timetable for the return of Chandler Hutchison, who practiced with the Windy City Bulls this week with the hope of clearing the final hurdle in his recovery from a hamstring injury. With the Bulls thin at wing depth, Hutchison has yet to play this season.
"Hutch is still working his way through. Don’t have anything new to report on that. We’ll see how that plays out," Boylen said following Friday's morning shootaround. "Hopefully, he can practice (Saturday) with us. Hopefully we can move forward with it. Obviously, it’s a long process and it’s frustrating for him and for us. But we have hope."
Asked if Hutchison had suffered a setback, Boylen said: "I don’t want to say setback. We slowed him down a little bit. And we’ll see where he’s at (Saturday)."
After shootaround, Hutchison got up shots individually at the Advocate Center. Boylen said Hutchison is scheduled to practice Saturday but it's unclear if he'll travel with the team for Sunday's game in Indianapolis against the Pacers.
Earlier this week, Hutchison spoke with NBC Sports Chicago's Mark Schanowski about his recovery.
"If everything goes good, what I’ve communicated with our training staff is that we’re going to give it a shot on Friday,” Hutchison said.
NBA
Hutchison's rookie season ended after just 44 games because of a fracture of the sesamoid bone in his foot. Without Hutchison and with Boylen not playing Denzel Valentine, the Bulls have used a three-guard rotation of Kris Dunn, Ryan Arcidiacono and Coby White in the second unit.
