Zach LaVine had two free agencies to negotiate in 2022.
Now, one is behind him, with one looming in this summer.
Thursday morning, New Balance announced it is signing the Chicago Bulls All-Star guard as one of featured athletes.
“New Balance is a brand that’s investing in me not just as a player but as an individual. I wanted to partner with a company that is equally passionate about supporting my interests beyond the court,” LaVine said in a statement. “New Balance’s creativity is making waves across hoops and I’m excited to join a roster of athletes that aren’t afraid to approach the game in their own way.”
LaVine, who had a multi-year contract with Adidas expire in 2021, sampled a litany of different shoes during the 2021-22 season. But ultimately he lands with a brand that is growing, having inked high-profile names such as Kawhi Leonard and Dejounte Murray, a childhood friend of LaVine's, in recent years.
As for that other free agency? That will come in July. But LaVine has business to address before then, from the 10-game stretch run of the regular season to the first playoff action of his NBA career.
One thing we know for sure: He'll be laced up with New Balance kicks when he takes the floor.
