NBA teams can speak to free agents Monday

Get ready to roll Bulls fans, the free agent frenzy is about to get under way.

Ken Berger at CBSSports confirmed that direct contact between NBA teams and free agents is allowed beginning Monday. Coaches and players will be able to have contact at practice facilities and coaches can give physicals to free agents but still can't oversee on-court workouts until training camp.

No oral or written agreements can be struck with free agents during this time because the lockout is technically still in effect. The players and owners hope to finalize everything by Thursday so the official free agency period can begin Friday. Until then, it's going to be a bumpy ride. Prepare for the rumor mills to rev up with talks of handshake deals in preparation for the plethora of contract reports expected Friday. Welcome back NBA.
