Indiana's roller-coaster non-conference season is again pointing downward.
The Hoosiers lost to a terrific Butler team Saturday and because of it plummeted seven spots in both the AP and coaches polls when the fresh sets of top-25 rankings were released Monday.
Indiana dropped from No. 9 to No. 16 in the two polls after a strong showing by Butler resulted in the Hoosiers' second loss of the season. Tom Crean's crew has defeated two teams currently ranked in the top eight in the country: No. 3 Kansas and No. 8 North Carolina — and Butler is the new No. 13 in both polls — but a head-scratching loss at Fort Wayne has Indiana looking like one of the more unpredictable teams around.

As for the rest of the Big Ten, Purdue wasn't rewarded at all for beating a ranked Notre Dame team in sensational comeback fashion on Saturday. The Boilermakers stayed at No. 15 in the AP poll and climbed just one spot to No. 15 in the coaches poll. The Fighting Irish, meanwhile, remained ranked in both polls, giving the Boilers a signature win. But that's not how the pollsters see it right now, apparently.
Wisconsin, too, stayed put in the polls, No. 14 in both sets of rankings.
Maryland, Minnesota and Northwestern also received votes in the AP poll, while Maryland, Michigan State and Minnesota received votes in the coaches poll.
