Michigan reportedly gives defensive coordinator Don Brown a five-year contract

Don Brown is getting paid.

Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman reported Saturday that Michigan's defensive coordinator is getting a new five-year contract that will pay him roughly $1.4 million annually.

It's a no-brainer of a move for the Wolverines after Brown led one of the best defenses in the country this season. Even after Friday night's loss to Florida State in the Orange Bowl, Michigan still ranks second in the country in both scoring and total defense, trailing only No. 1 Alabama. The Wolverines allowed an average of 14.1 points and 261.8 total yards per game during the 2016 season.

Michigan ranked near the top in plenty of other categories, too, including No. 1 in third-down defense (21 percent) and passing defense (142.5 yards a game), No. 2 in tackles for loss (121), No. 3 in sacks (46), No. 4 in red-zone defense (71.4 percent) and No. 15 in rushing defense (119.2 yards a game).

Of course, Brown and head coach Jim Harbaugh will have plenty of work to do next season as a large contingent of the Michigan defense moves on.
