2020 baseball return: Chicago Dogs to host home opener with fans in stands

Baseball is back in Chicago on Tuesday-- well at least it’s back in Rosemont.

The Chicago Dogs are hosting their home opener at Impact Field, with fans in the stands, Tuesday evening.

To help ensure the safety of everyone in attendance, the Dogs say they are taking extra precautions, including taking the temperature of staff before they enter the ballpark and requiring all staff to wear masks and gloves when they interact with fans. The team is also hiring additional staff to disinfect surfaces before, during and after the game.

In addition, the team has updated their seating chart to allow space among fans. People will only be able to buy up to four seats next to each other. Aisles will also be marked for one-way foot traffic. Attendance will be capped at 20% capacity as well.

Out on the concourse, the team will promote social distancing by separating the area with stanchions and marking one-way traffic. You won’t have to open the door to go to the bathroom either, as they will be propped open for contactless entry and exit.

All of those measures are certainly out of the ordinary, so to add a sense of normalcy to the ball game Wayne Messmer will sing the national anthem.

And what would a day at the park be without a giveaway? Fans will also be treated to a bobblehead of Mike Ditka wearing a Chicago Dogs sweater.
