Dwight Howard reprises Superman dunk in tribute to Kobe Bryant at dunk contest

For the first time since winning the event in 2008, Dwight Howard was back in action at the dunk contest — this time as a part of All-Star Saturday in Chicago.

His round one slam — a tricked out 360 that seemed to stop time itself — was undeniably impressive:

And round two brought memories flooding back. In a reprisal of his famous Superman dunk, Howard brought former Magic teammate (and the lobber for the original jam) Jameer Nelson out on the UC floor. However you feel about Dwight, the result was eye-catching:

Another layer to said nostalgia: On the front of the blue shirt which he lifted off his Laker jersey to reveal, the number '24' was overlaid on the expected red and yellow Superman logo — a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant.

Howard was eliminated after this dunk, giving way for one of the more epic (and controversial) finishes in dunk contest history.
