Kruger strikes, but IceHogs' scoring woes continue

The IceHogs aren't having any trouble putting shots on goal. Getting them to go in is an entirely different story.

Rockford fell to 0-3-0-1 with a 2-1 loss to the Charlotte Checkers Saturday night in their home opener. They fired 36 shots on goal, only one found the back of the net.

Marcus Kruger put the IceHogs on the board first with his second goal of the season at the 14:20 mark of the opening frame. Nick Leddy picked up a secondary assist on the tally. But Charlotte struck once in the second and third periods to escape with a win.

In Rockford's first four games, they've scored just five goals with Jeremy Morin accounting for two of them and Peter LeBlanc the other.

Several of the Blackhawks top prospects are still searching for their first goal of the season including Brandon Saad, Andrew Shaw, Jimmy Hayes, Brandon Pirri, Philippe Pardis and Ben Smith.

Carter Hutton made 40 saves in a losing effort.

Blackhawks legend Denis Savard dropped the ceremonial puck before the contest.
