The Bears aren't a bad football team. They aren't a great football team, either, which is probably why they ended 2019 at 8-8.

But if GM Ryan Pace makes some calculated signings in free agency, the Bears can quickly go from a .500 club back to the kind of 12-win team they were in 2018. This roster doesn't need a facelift; it simply needs a tune-up.

Unfortunately for Chicago, some of the positions that need repair are also extremely pricey. Whether it's along the offensive line or a pass-rusher who can get after the quarterback, Pace will have no choice but to open the checkbook and do whatever it takes to add starting-quality talent. And that may come at the expense of current veterans on the roster like CB Prince Amukamara and OLB Leonard Floyd.
