No position will undergo as much evaluation and scrutiny as quarterback in Chicago this offseason. The Bears will likely toe the company line that Mitch Trubisky is their starter for 2020, but competition (at the very least) should be added.
Trubisky has done his part over the last three games to give general manager Ryan Pace firmer ground to stand on when he champions Trubisky sometime in January. His command of the offense has been better, even if the statistics still don't show it. Trubisky's on-field confidence is growing by the week. He's throwing the ball with more velocity and accuracy and putting his receivers in position to make plays.
But is it too little too late for the former second overall pick? Probably not. He's under contract through 2020 and the Bears could (and probably should) pick up his fifth-year option this May. Even if he isn't the quarterback of the future, he'd serve the job as the bridge to 'that guy' pretty well.

Week 12 was another showcase for Titans starter Ryan Tannehill, who's looking less likely to hit the open market with each passing week. Tennessee would be foolish not to lock him up on a multi-year contract after he's fueled the Titans' charge to 6-5 and a legitimate run to the playoffs. Expect the Bears to be one of his strongest suitors if Tennessee doesn't reach a new deal with him.
Week 13 will welcome the return of Andy Dalton to the Bengals' starting lineup. It'll be a five-game audition for his next employer. The Bears need a veteran game-manager like Dalton who can execute Matt Nagy's offense in an efficient manner and Bears fans should pay close attention to his next five starts. Dalton to the Bears just makes too much sense.
The pool of second- and third-day quarterback prospects for the 2020 NFL draft continues to look strong, with Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts running for 173 yards in the Sooners' win over TCU last week. There's also Washington State's stat-monster, Anthony Gordon, who has a Pac-12 record 4,920 passing yards. Teams searching for the next Gardner Minshew are certain to first look at the program he came out of, and Gordon profiles as a Day-3 prospect at this point as well. If the Bears want to add a talented player with upside who also doesn't present an immediate threat to Trubisky, Gordon could be an ideal target.
