The Bears aren’t done rebuilding their secondary. Ryan Poles selected safety Elijah Hicks with his second-to-last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Hicks started as a cornerback, but switched to safety after the 2019 season. Last season he racked up an incredible 72 tackles in 12 games. He was also a takeaway machine, with three interceptions and four forced fumbles.

Hicks was named First-Team All-Pac-12 and was recognized as Cal’s Defensive MVP in 2021.

In addition to Hicks, the Bears added Jaquan Brisker at safety with the No. 48 overall pick.

Saturday was much busier for the Bears than initially expected. The team entered Day 3 with only three picks, but after four trades Poles ended up with eight selections.

In the end the team added six players on offense, four players on defense and one special teams player.
