Detroit Lions give themselves the L with new hat design

Ryan Pace traded up to nab his quarterback of the future in Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Fields racked up 78 total touchdowns in Columbus over 2019-20, and led the Buckeyes to last season’s national championship game.

When teams make a bad move in-game or post something cringe online, usually they take an L in the comments. But in a rare move the Detroit Lions have given themselves an L. Literally.

That’s a look at New Era’s new Logo Mix 59Fifty design. Most teams’ hats feature the first letter of their name behind their logo. Unfortunately for the Lions, that letter is associated with the one thing the team has done consistently over the past 50 years.

The reactions on Twitter were about what you’d expect when word got out about the new design.
