Fantasy Football: Is David Montgomery a sleeper RB in Week 2?

After a six-carry, 18-yard performance in his NFL debut, Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery looks like anything but a fantasy football starter entering Week 2 against the Denver Broncos. His limited workload and the Bears' ugly offensive output has lowered expectations for the former Iowa State star, at least early in the season.

But that may be a mistake, according to CBS Sports' fantasy expert Jamey Eisenberg. He named Montgomery to his list of sleeper running backs this week.

I'm hoping for Montgomery to have a bigger workload in Week 2 against the Broncos after he was limited against Green Bay in Week 1. He played the fewest snaps out of Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis, but he looked like the best running back on the field for Chicago despite just six carries for 18 yards and one catch for 27 yards. The Broncos just allowed fellow rookie Josh Jacobs of the Raiders to gain 113 total yards and score two touchdowns in Week 1, so hopefully Montgomery will be similarly productive this week.

Montgomery and Jacobs were two of the most sought-after rookie running backs in fantasy drafts this summer. Jacobs found success against Vic Fangio and the Broncos defense in Week 1, which puts some added pressure on Montgomery to match or exceed that production.

There's no doubt Montgomery has the talent to chew up yards in bunches Sunday assuming the workload is there. That, however, is a big assumption to make until Matt Nagy commits not only to the running game but also to one of the three running backs jockeying for carries in the Bears' backfield.

Until then, Montgomery may be a guy you want to stash on your bench.
