It was Sept. 9, 1969, when the Cubs were victims of the original "Black Cat Game".
In that fateful game against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium in '69, a black cat infamously ran straight into the Cubs dugout and ran around for a brief period of time.
Heading into the matchup the Cubs were holding on to a 1.5 game lead over the Mets in the NL East. Following the incident with the black cat, the Cubs went on to lose that game to the Mets and went on to compile an 8-17 record in September, paving the way for the Mets, who went on to clinch the division on Sept. 24.

After the events of Monday night, it's safe to say there is a new "Black Cat Game."
The New York Giants were holding a 9-6 lead in Monday night's matchup against the Dallas Cowboys when a black cat got loose on the field. The feline football fan caused a ruckus by running back and forth for a good minute before eventually making its way to the tunnel and off the field.
With the Giants holding on to a lead at the time the cat exited, one would think the cat's presence spells bad luck for the Cowboys but as with the Cubs' legendary '69 black cat-fueled collapse, only time will tell.
