The NFL is releasing an all-time team in honor of its 100th season this year and the Bears already have a pair of finalists.
On Monday, Walter Payton was announced as one of 24 finalists at running back. Payton’s resume needs no explanation, but he retired as the NFL’s all-time rushing leader and is currently second on that list.
There will be 100 players (for 100 years) on the team and 12 of which will be running backs. It’s safe to say Payton is a lock to make the final cut.

The coaching finalists were announced on Tuesday with Bears founder George Halas included. Halas is among 20 coaches to be named finalists with 10 making the all-time team.
Bill Belichick, Curly Lambeau, Tom Landry, Vince Lombardi, John Madden, Bill Parcells, Don Shula and Bill Walsh are also among the finalists.
A 26-person panel deliberated on who should make the prestigious group with current and former coaches, GMs, executives, players and media comprising the group.
The team will be released in chunks beginning on Nov. 22 with weekly updates.
