Rookie WR Javon Wims active for Bears vs. Buccaneers

An injury to one rookie Bears wide receiver created an opening for another. Second-round pick Anthony Miller was ruled out this week with a shoulder injury, and so seventh-round pick Javon Wims will be active for the first game of his career against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wims may not see a significant role on offense, with Joshua Bellamy and Kevin White expected to fill in for Miller, but the rookie could be relied on for more special teams as he tries to show the coaching staff he deserves to be active more often.

Safety DeAndre Houston-Carson will also make his season debut, now fully recovered from the broken forearm he suffered during the preseason. His return should add to a Bears special teams that have been solid already without him this year.

Outside linebackers Isaiah Irving and Kylie Fitts are inactive for the fourth-straight game, while offensive tackle Rashaad Coward and defensive lineman Nick Williams remain sidelined.

Cornerbacks Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper were ruled out ahead of time, and undrafted rookie free agent Kevin Toliver II will start on the outside opposite Kyle Fuller as the Bears defense tries to slow down Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Buccaneers’ offense.
