Blackhawks have key opportunity with another crack at Stars

When the Blackhawks faceoff against the Stars on Tuesday at the United Center, they'll have an opportunity to build off of a solid performance from their last game (a 2-1 shootout loss at Dallas on Saturday).

"We didn't give them too much," Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw said following Tuesday's morning skate. "It was a 1-1 hockey game, a shootout's a shootout, I like how we played. I think we're going to bring the same effort tonight, maybe a little bit dirtier, get to the net a little bit more."

Despite losing three straight games, the Hawks have a chance to again build some momentum.

The Blackhawks had two disallowed goals on Saturday, Robin Lehner stopped 40 of 41 shots before going 0-for-2 in the shootout, and Patrick Kane extended his point streak to 12 games (21 points; eight goals, 13 assists) with an assist.

"I thought we played well (on Saturday), we gotta do it again and fun to play the same team again," Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said. "We know they’re a good team, it’s going to be a good test. They’ve been playing really well and up to us to find a way to get two points."

Who's in

Corey Crawford will start in net for the Blackhawks. He saved 31 of 34 shots against the Tampa Bay Lightning in his last start (a 4-2 loss at the United Center on Thursday).

Who's out

Forward Matthew Highmore will be out of the lineup after being recalled from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League on Monday. The Blackhawks signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2017.

"It's great, just being around the guys, being out there in practice, being able to battle with them." Highmore said of the call-up. "Just being around the whole system here, it's been a lot of fun."

Highmore, the first forward recalled by the Blackhawks this season, made his NHL debut during the 2017-2018 season with the Blackhawks and scored two goals in 13 games.

"Honestly, I'm just here right now to enjoy it, be around the guys, work hard and help in any way I can," the 23-year-old winger said.

He missed the majority of last year after having surgery on his right shoulder.

"Injuries are part of the game," Highmore said. "It is what it is. You're just going to have to kind of fight through it."

This year, Highmore has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 17 games with the IceHogs.
