Blackhawks place Nick Seeler on unconditional waivers

In his second game of the season, Alex DeBrincat had two points under two minutes, one goal and one assist. While The Cat wasn’t pleased with the final outcome, he knows what needs to be done going forward.

The Blackhawks placed defenseman Nick Seeler on unconditional waivers on Saturday with the intent to terminate his contract.

Seeler, 27, was claimed by the Blackhawks from the Minnesota Wild on Feb. 3, 2020 and appeared in six games during the 2019-20 season. He registered one assist and averaged 13:32 of ice time over that span.

With the youth movement underway in Chicago, it was difficult to see a future for Seeler with the Blackhawks. He was originally brought in to provide depth and had one year left on his contract ($725,000 cap hit).

The Blackhawks included defensemen prospects Nicolas Beaudin, Lucas Carlsson and Wyatt Kalynuk on their taxi squad roster, which indicates they're next in line to get a crack with the NHL club.
