The Blackhawks announced Wednesday evening that they have recalled forward Anton Wedin from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. To make room for him financially on the 23-man roster, Drake Caggiula (concussion protocol) was transferred to long-term injured reserve (LTIR), retroactive to Nov. 10.
Wedin has four goals and seven assists in 17 games with the IceHogs this season, and his 11 points is tied for third on the team. He's the second call-up in three days for the Blackhawks, joining Matthew Highmore, who made his season debut in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Dallas Stars.
With Dylan Strome being placed in concussion protocol on Tuesday and Caggiula still sidelined, Wedin gives the Blackhawks an extra forward as Caggiula and Strome recover from their injures. The Blackhawks have a home-and-home series against the Colorado Avalanche on Friday and Saturday, and it's likely Wedin gets into at least one of those games.

Because he was moved to LTIR, Caggiula is not eligible to play until Dec. 5 against the Boston Bruins. He skated on his own before practice on Monday, which is a step in the right direction, but LTIR rules say he cannot return to game action for 24 days and a minimum of 10 games from his retroactive date.
