Four takeaways: Crawford, Blackhawks soar over Stars

The Blackhawks defeated the Dallas Stars 3-0 on Tuesday night. Here are four takeaways:

The Crow show

Corey Crawford was sensational in net for the Blackhawks against the Stars on Tuesday night at the United Center. He was 4-5-2 heading into the game with a 3.02 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.

Crawford fended off all 32 Dallas shots for the 3-0 shutout, the 26th of his career. His last shutout came on March 16, 2019 in Montreal (48 saves). His last shutout at the United Center was on Nov. 14, 2018 against the Blues (28 saves).

Kane, Blackhawks handle the heat

Much like Saturday's game in Dallas (a 2-1 shootout loss with Robin Lehner in net), for the rematch, the Blackhawks, 0-2-1 in their past three games, faced one of the league's hottest teams. The Stars, who started the season 1-7-1, were 14-1-1 in their past 16 games - grabbing 29 of a possible 32 points - including a 4-2 victory over the Golden Knights at home on Monday, before heading to Chicago on Tuesday.

The Hawks were hot out of the gate, outshooting the Stars 12-9 in the first period, killing the lone penalty of the period and leading 1-0 before the first intermission off a Brandon Saad goal.

Dallas put up 14 shots in the second to Chicago's 11 for a two-period total of 23-23, but the Hawks were able to hold them off and keep it a 1-0 game heading into the third period.

Patrick Kane extended his point streak to 13 games (22 points; nine goals, 13 assists) with a goal in the third to put the Hawks up 2-0. Kane scored from the right circle off a pass from Alex DeBrincat on a Blackhawks' power play.

He has 29 goals against Dallas, the most goals he has over any other team. The second most he has is 24 against the Predators and Blues.

Connor Murphy scored into the empty Stars' net to make it 3-0 at 17:20 of the third and the Hawks ended Dallas' seven-game winning streak.

Strome in concussion protocol

The Blackhawks announced center Dylan Strome would miss Tuesday night's game against the Stars and that he's in concussion protocol as pregame warmups began.

Strome participated in Tuesday's morning skate and Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said he expected the same lineup as Saturday (in which Strome played) with the exception of the goalies, following the skate.

Saad joins the 100-goal club

Saad scored his 100th goal with the Blackhawks (155th career) in the first period of Tuesday's game against the Stars. He scored with a wrist-shot from the slot off an assist from Erik Gustafsson at 11:20 of the first period. It was his seventh goal of the season.

The winger has 14 points in 23 games this season. Saad has 328 points in 554 NHL games.
