Purdue running back D.J. Knox is expected to miss the upcoming season, Boilermakers head coach Darrell Hazell said in a Thursday radio interview.
Hazell said in the interview that Knox tore his ACL in last weekend's spring game.
Knox was Purdue's second leading rusher as a sophomore a season ago with 409 yards on 108 carries. He also scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, averaging better than 40 yards a game as the backup behind Markell Jones, who led the Boilers with 875 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

The loss of Knox figures to dramatically test the depth in a backfield that wasn't very productive a year ago. Purdue struggled to run the ball last season, ranking 13th out of 14 Big Ten teams with 131.3 rushing yards per game.
