Thibodeau, in his first year as a head coach in the league after 20 years as an assistant coachincluding stops in Minnesota, San Antonio, New York, Houston and Boston, where he won a championship in 2008led the Bulls to a 62-20 regular-season mark, good enough for the best record in the league and home-court advantage throughout the postseason.
The Connecticut native, 53, implemented a defensive-oriented style and brought the best out of players like Rose and Luol Deng this season, brushing aside individual accolades thrown his way all season.
The Bulls, currently in the Eastern Conference semifinals, host the Atlanta Hawks in Game 1 of that series Monday evening at the United Center. Thibodeau would likely be presented with the award prior to that game.
