ESPN's Michael Wilbon on Cubs: ‘It feels like it's the beginning'

It's a sad day-after for the Cubs; getting this far and anticlimactically putting an end to a "wasn't supposed to happen" magical season.

Naturally, Cubs fans are tossing around what-ifs and asking themselves 'If only this happened or that didn't happen?' But what did happen, is the reason Chicago isn't moping around, says ESPN's Michael Wilbon.

Wilbon, a die-hard Cubs fan and Chicago native, joined 'The Dan Patrick Show' on Thursday following the Cubs NLCS loss against the New York Mets to provide some closure after a bitter-sweet end.

To Wilbon, the projection of the Cubs making the playoffs in the first place was wildly out of control and optimistic. So a loss like this one, isn't necessarily a loss. It's an added bonus in an already bonus year.

"I'm a little upset at getting swept, but I'm not gonna sit here and say 'oh, I'm in usual Cub depression that I've been in several other times in my life' -- it's not that bad," said Wilbon. "It feels a little different now.

"It feels like it's the beginning."
