It's official. Tim Anderson is an American League All-Star.
The 2019 batting champion will replace Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa on the roster, who informed MLB that he is opting out of the game to be with his pregnant wife.
The announcement comes after a series of impassioned pleas from Hall-of-Fame slugger and NBC Sports Chicago analyst Frank Thomas, who called the initial snub “bad for baseball.”

As of Saturday, Anderson has a slash line of .312/.350/.429 and has made quite the All-Star bid heading into the break. He’s batting .341 over his last 30 games and is in the midst of a 10-game hit streak, reaching base in eight of his last 10 at-bats.
Anderson will join White Sox pitchers Carlos Rodón, Lance Lynn and Liam Hendriks in Denver for the July 13 contest.
And good thing, too. Because while all four players are worthy selections, no one reps the South Side quite like Anderson.
