No one is better equipped to teach Fields how to be a dominant dual-threat QB than Vick

Justin Fields and the Bears recently had a special guest at Halas Hall. Former Falcons and Eagles superstar Michael Vick dropped by Halas Hall to catch up with Fields.

Fields grew up in a suburb of Atlanta, so he was a big Vick fan when Vick was tearing up the league as the most dominant rushing quarterback the league had ever seen.

“I remember when I was 8 or 9 years old, I had his cleats,” Fields said last year.

So it was extra special when Fields broke Vick’s record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game. Fields had 178 rushing yards against the Dolphins last year, which just edged out Vick’s 173 yards against the Vikings back in 2002. By the end of the year, Fields’ 1,143 rushing yards on the season passed Vick’s 1,039 yards for second most in a single season. Lamar Jackson holds the NFL record for most rushing yards in a season by a QB with 1,206.

After Fields broke Vick’s record, Vick applauded the feat. Just like Fields, Vick was more than just a running quarterback. Back at Ohio State, Fields was more of a passing threat than a rushing threat and the Bears want that passing game to develop more this season.

We don’t know what Fields and Vick talked about during their time together at Halas Hall, but no one is better equipped to share how the threat of running the ball can help open the passing game better than Vick.
