The Cubs have a second vacancy on their coaching staff.
Friday, the Red Sox announced the hiring of Cubs third base coach Will Venable as their bench coach.

Venable, 37, joined the Cubs in the 2016-17 offseason as a special assistant to the general manager and president. He moved to the coaching staff in 2018 as first base coach, holding that position until moving to third base coach this past season.
Venable was a candidate for Boston's and Detroit's managerial vacancies this winter, which ultimately went to Alex Cora and A.J. Hinch. Last winter, he interviewed for the Giants', Astros' and Cubs' manager jobs, which went to Gabe Kapler, Dusty Baker and David Ross, calling the interviews a "good opportunity."
“It’s helping me grow as a coach and [it’s] gonna help me be a better coach for the Chicago Cubs," Venable said at 2020 Cubs Convention. "The process has been great and I’m looking forward to using my experience and talking to different baseball people and hearing their ideas and their perspective and applying it to what I do with the Cubs."
Last month, the Cubs parted ways with assistant hitting coach Terrmel Sledge and have yet to fill the position. On Tuesday, team president Theo Epstein also announced he's stepping down.
