Bears Week 2 injury report: Kyle Long misses Thursday practice with ankle injury

The Bears were one of the more healthy teams in the NFL entering the season, but after one game, the war of attrition starts to begin.

Chicago still doesn’t have a long injury list, but a few players were added to the mix after Sunday night’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Right guard Kyle Long missed the team’s first practice of the week on Thursday with an ankle injury, while slot cornerback Bryce Callahan was limited with a knee injury.

DeAndre Houston-Carson and Daniel Brown were both on the report last week and sidelined for Sunday’s game. The third-year safety will still be out as he recovers from a broken forearm, but it appears the veteran tight end could be back in action on Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

Long received a veteran’s day off last week, but the ankle injury appears to be somewhat more significant. He had ankle surgery this offseason for an injury that bothered him all of last season, but it isn’t clear whether this new ailment is related.

If this injury proves to be serious, rookie James Daniels would be the next in line to start, although the team might consider moving Eric Kush to right guard to fit Daniels in on the left side where he might be more comfortable.

The Bears still have two more practices before their Week 2 game, and Matt Nagy should provide clarity on his starting right guard before too long. It’s far too early for Bears fans to panic.
