Bulls announce signing of Simi Shittu

On Friday, the Bulls announced the signing of rookie forward Simi Shittu, a move which brings the team’s current roster to 20 players.

In all likelihood, the impetus behind the signing is to use Shittu as a camp body and then filter him down to the G League when the regular season begins later this month. Shittu was a highly regarded prospect coming out of high school in 2018 (ESPN had him as a five-star recruit and ranked inside their top 20), but a disappointing freshman campaign at Vanderbilt led to him not being selected in the 2019 draft.

Shittu averaged 10.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 46.8% shooting at Vanderbilt and flashed a bit of playmaking ability and defensive activity. In three games with the Memphis Grizzlies’ Summer League squad, he averaged 12.9 minutes and put up 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

The Bulls will tip off their preseason slate against the Milwaukee Bucks in Chicago on October 7.
