Johnnie Lowe had a nice second half of the season for a moribund Birmingham team, pitching to a 3.04 ERA in 10 Southern League outings after the All-Star break. That effort was not evident on Thursday though when he made his first appearance for the Saguaros as they battled the Peoria Javelinas to a 4-4 tie in 11 innings.

Lowe started and allowed four runs on six hits over three innings. He had allowed as many as four earned runs only once over his last nine starts with the Barons.

Jared Mitchell struck out in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter.

Josh Vitters was back at third base for Mesa on Thursday after playing on the opposite side of the diamond on Wednesday in his AFL debut. The former first-round pick seemed more at ease in familiar surroundings, collecting three hits and driving in a run in an 11-6 victory at Surprise.

Ryan Flaherty added a double, a walk and an RBI.
